Located on Cyprus southwest coast, Paphos is a vibrant resort town with stunning weather all year round, beautiful beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. The island's capital has been the main town on Cyprus since Roman times. According to legend, Paphos was built on the site where Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, was born. As a result some of the finest Greek relics and Roman mosaics in the world were found here and can still be viewed.
Today, Paphos is an idyllic holiday destination, boasting stunning spas, luxurious hotels, traditional tavernas, entertainment venues and a lively nightlife. It's the ideal base from which to explore Cyprus' many treasures, including stunning scenery, World Heritage listed historic attractions and excellent resort facilities.
The main residential area of Paphos is Ktima, whilst Kato Paphos, the area around the medieval port, is holiday heaven. There are three beaches - a pebble beach next to the waterfront hotels on Kato Paphos, a central, sandy municipal beach and pretty Faros Beach, which is more secluded. Just 13km from the city is Coral Bay, which boasts a beautiful sand beach. Of course, there are loads of watersports to enjoy, from windsurfing and parasailing to pedalo boats.
Aside from beach life, there is a lot to do in Paphos, including exploring ancient fortesses and tombs to visiting Roman ruins. See the intricate mosaics at Nea Paphos, considered amongst the most beautiful in the world, as well as the Tombs of the Kings, and to find out more about this city's fascinating history, visit the Archaeological Museum. The more adventurous enjoy hiking in the Troodos and there's an array of fun water activities for the whole family at Paphos Aphrodite Water Park.
